‘Pacific Rim 2’: Release Date Confirmed, Director Guillermo del Toro Who’s Writing the Script Says Action Will Take Place Not Just in the Pacific

Universal Pictures’ Pacific Rim 2 is set for release on April 7, 2017. Showrunner and director Guillermo del Toro in a talk with Buzzfeed said: “The characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.” Del Torro is also co-writing the script with Zak Penn and Travis Beacham. Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will once again produce, alongside del Toro, Mary Parent and Callum Greene. Jillian Share will be executive producer. Universal Pictures will be releasing the Pacific Rim sequel movie worldwide in 3D and IMAX 3D.Read more

Ghost in the Shell, Disney’s Touchstone Pictures and Dreamworks’ live-action feature film adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s manga of the same name has been scheduled for release to theaters beginning April 14, 2017. Rupert Sanders (best known for his work on Snow White and the Huntsman) would be directing based on a screenplay to be written by William Wheeler. Acting as producers will be Avi Arad, Seaside Entertainment's Steven Paul, and Mark Sourian. According to Variety, Scarlett Johansson has signed on to star in the film as Major Motoko Kusanagi, the head of the counter-cyberterrorist organization Public Security Section 9.Read more

‘Wolverine 3’: Plot Still in Development, But Hugh Jackman Sure to be Back as Logan, The Adamantium-Clawed, Almost Death-Proof X-Man

20th Century Fox’s Wolverine 3 will be released to theaters on March 3, 2017. David James Kelly will be writing the script. James Mangold will return to direct the third Wolverine film and Hugh Jackman will be back to reprise his signature role as the adamantium-clawed mutant. The plot for the third solo Wolverine film is still in development but Mangold previously told Screen Rant that “there are great texts about his connections to others, villains, characters from the lore and from the comics that we can bring out and have another great and meaningful adventure.” Anyway, the production work on Wolverine 3 will begin only after filming wraps up for X-Men: Apocalypse, which is due to be released on May 27, 2016.Read more

Guardians of the Galaxy 2, the sequel to last year’s box office hit Guardians of the Galaxy and the 15th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is scheduled to be seen in cinemas beginning May 5, 2017. Writer and director James Gunn will back, as will the original Guardians cast comprised of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. Also confirmed returning are Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta and Karen Gillian as Nebula. As with the original Kevin Feige will likewise produce the sequel.Read more

Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Lego Batman Movie, a spinoff from last year’s box office hit The Lego Movie, is now being fast-tracked for its tentatively scheduled release to theaters of May 26, 2017. Chris McKay, who was the animation supervisor on the original Lego Movie, is now directing the Lego Batman spinoff flick, the script for which is being written by Seth Grahame-Smith. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who wrote and directed the original, are now producing along with Roy Lee and Dan Lin.
