Jamie Foxx is set to portray the role of the iconic heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson in an upcoming biopic of the legendary boxer.
In a report by TMZ last September of last year, the Academy Award winning actor was said to be secretly meeting with Mike Tyson in preparation for an untitled biopic of the boxer. Though there is not enough details yet for the movie, Foxx is confirmed and will be involved in the production.
Foxx was last seen in the musical movie adaptation of Annie where he co-starred with Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale and Cameron Diaz. The movie received mostly mixed to negative reviews and has a 28% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
In another news, Open Road Film Company has picked up the distribution rights to the remake of the French film Sleepless Nights that will star the 47-year-old actor and actress Michelle Monaghan.
The film, with Baran Bo Odar directing, follows an undercover police officer who scours a nightclub in search of his kidnapped son.
The project was originally set up at Warner Bros. before being put into turnaround even though Foxx had expressed interest in starring. After hearing Foxx was circling the project, Open Road hurried up and nabbed it. The studio plans to sell international rights next week at the Berlin Film Market.
Meanwhile, Iron Mike himself will debut as a GLORY kickboxing commentator and analyst airing on Feb 9 via Spike TV. The 20-minute show will preview heavyweight world champions Rico Verhoeven and rival Errol Zimmerman. Tyson will add perspectives on their rivalry and will step into the ring to complete the trilogy.
