Sherlock Season 4 airs in 2016, after a one-episode Christmas special to “completely” solve the mystery of Moriarty’s return from the dead

BBC One announced that it will be airing a single-episode Christmas special of Sherlock in December 2015, followed by the premiere of Season 4 in early 2016. Filming begins this month in fact. “It’s taken a little while to get the dates sorted as none of the boys are exactly sitting back twiddling their thumbs but there was unanimous goodwill to make this work, so we’re thrilled that 221b is going to be inhabited again,” said Hartwood Films executive producer Sue Vertue in a BBC One media release.Read more

The year 2016 is when Sherlock Season 4 will be released, according to the BBC network. Although that is quite a long wait for Sherlock fans, the network is actually brewing a Christmas special for 2015, a one-episode special that will air prior to Season 4.
