NBC has renewed Dick Wolf's second installment in the "Chicago" franchise, "Chicago PD," which will deliver more explosives from the cliffhangers that were left off during the season finale. The police procedural series follows the adventure of uniformed patrol officers as well as the Intelligence Unit of the 21st District of the Chicago Police Department. The officers will continue to hunt down the criminals in the city when the series returns for the fifth season. However, one of its major characters is still uncertain to return for season 5.
Detective Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) is generally unfazed by the criminals in "Chicago PD" and in the season finale, she was seen in trouble as she went too far during an interrogation. Jesse Lee Soffer, who plays the role of Detective Jay Halstead told Us Weekly that season 5 will solve all the cliffhangers that were left off in season 4. He went on to say that his character might also propose to Lindsay to marry him.
However, Soffer said that it's still uncertain if Lindsay can still hold on to her job in "Chicago PD" after going too far in the interrogation room. "We have to wait and see if she still has her job [and] if she can stay in the unit," he said. "Boyd is going to try and take care of business and come to the rescue." That said, many fans are wondering if Sophia Bush is still returning in season 5.
Jason Beghe, who plays the role of Hank Voight in "Chicago PD" also said that season 5 would be very different as they have a set of new writers as well as a new showrunner. He explained that it would be too early to predict what would happen in season 5 as they haven't started creating interesting ideas. With the recent comments of the two major characters in the show, fans can't avoid but wonder if Bush would still be part next season.
"Chicago PD" season 5 is expected to return in fall 2017. CarterMatt reports that the series has already secured a timeslot, which is every Wednesday at 10 PM ET. Celebeat will provide more updates about the series soon. Stay tuned!
