There is little doubt that Michael Rooker has always been James Gunn's lucky charm. After all, the former "Walking Dead" actor and the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" director have worked in several projects together. Although it is seems very likely that the follow-up to the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel will no longer feature Yondu Udonta, there are speculations that Gunn will still find a way to bring Rooker back in the future. Could Yondu still return in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" despite his depressing death?
James Gunn recently had a Facebook Q&A where he answered several questions about the second MCU film featuring Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and the adorable Baby Groot. The "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" director revealed that he thought of Yondu Udonta's awesome Mary Poppins line while writing the script and thinking the Ravager would look like the magical nanny while flying around holding on to his arrow. In addition to that, Gunn admitted that "Yondu's final moment" was the most emotional scene he wrote in the sequel. But is there any way that Michael Rooker will have a cameo in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3"?
It looks like James Gunn has no plans of bringing Yondu Udonta back in the MCU flick even if he had made a difficult decision of not working with his long-time collaborator. "I almost didn't do 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' because there was no Michael Rooker in it and I couldn’t see making the movie without him," the director admitted (via io9). In line with that, the death of Yondu was "the hardest choice" Gunn has had to make while writing "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2".
Although Yondu Udonta will be sorely missed in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", his resurrection would only make his emotional death less meaningful. Luckily, fans can still expect James Gunn and Michael Rooker to continue working together on other projects.
