Avan Jogia has once again proven that he is one of the most underrated actors of his generation. The "Tut" star is being lauded for his stunning performance as a disturbed young man in "The Drowning", where Jogia managed to steal scenes from Josh Charles and Julia Stiles. Could an award be in the future for the "Ghost Wars" actor?
"The Drowning" is actually based on the novel "Border Crossing" which was written by Pat Barker. The book follows Tom Seymour, a child psychologist who saves a young man attempting to commit suicide by jumping into a river. It is later revealed that the boy was once a patient of Tom's, who had recommended that the 10-year-old should be tried as an adult for the murder of an elderly woman. In the Bette Gordon film, Avan Jogia portrays the troubled Danny Miller who struggles to deal with his turbulent past with Tom's help.
It looks like "The Drowning" has proven to be a stunning film. In a review by Vulture, the Bette Gordon movie is described as being "on the edge of melodrama" but with a terrifying conclusion. In addition to that, there is plenty of praise for the man who portrayed Danny Miller. "Avan Jogia's performance is frightening in its emotional intensity, in its flickering mixture of anger and neediness," the site wrote. It certainly sounds like fans will see a different side of Jogia in the psychological drama.
"The Drowning" might not be an easy film to watch but Avan Jogia fans can still look forward to the actor's other projects. CeleBeat has previously reported on the former "Victorious" star leading the upcoming Syfy series "Ghost Wars", which also stars Kim Coates and Vincent D'Onofrio. In addition to that, Jogia has four other movies that will be released in 2017 and 2018.
