"Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 has been officially canceled on Fox. According to Variety, the network decided to pull the plug on the show after four seasons on air, which may be due to the drop in ratings.
The show was a favorite among viewers, especially in its first three seasons. However, "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 saw quite a huge drop in ratings with an average of 0.5 in the 18-49 demo and 1.9 million viewers.
The "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 ratings were lower by 40 percent in the demo as compared to the previous season's ratings. There have already been speculations that the third season will be the last given that Fox decided to cut the number of episodes for the fourth season.
Nicole Beharie also left before "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4, which may have contributed to the drop in ratings. As The Mary Sue notes, Beharie's departure has hurt the show a lot because she is one of the characters that make the series interesting when paired with Tom Mison's Ichabod Crane.
Beharie was reportedly sidelined when her character was no longer given a storyline fitting for the role on "Sleepy Hollow." Fans have responded to the show's cancellation through an attempt to save the series by submitting online petitions.
Fans are hoping that "Sleepy Hollow" Season 5 will happen with the help of Beharie's return and the show getting picked up by another network. Others, however, thought that the series was long dead and no longer deserves to be revived.
