"American Gods" is finally coming to the small screen and anyone who is concerned about spoilers should rest easy. Orlando Jones, who portrays trickster god Mr. Nancy in the Starz series, has recently spoken about how wonderfully different the show will be compared to the Neil Gaiman novel. Jones even went as far as calling the series "fanfiction".
Orlando Jones recently spoke to io9 about "American Gods", which is set to be a spoiler-free interpretation of the book. According to the former "Sleepy Hollow" star, the author was collaborated with the show's co-creators perfectly to come up with, of all things, fanfiction. "I can't believe that Neil Gaiman, Bryan Fuller, and Michael Green are writing 'American Gods' fanfiction together," Jones stated.
But what exactly does that mean? It looks like Neil Gaiman has found a way to make sure that book readers will not be able to predict what will happen in the TV series. After all, the Starz show appears to be doing more than just follow the novel's storyline and is taking liberties with the backstories of its several characters. Could this mean that Orlando Jones' Mr. Nancy will have his own special episode focusing on the trickster god's origin story? There are speculations that "American Gods" might even touch upon Neil Gaiman's other book "Anansi Boys". This is certainly a welcome idea because Mr. Nancy is expected to play a larger role in the Starz series.
