Ricky Whittle has certainly landed a life-changing part when he was chosen to portray Shadow Moon in the highly anticipated "American Gods". However, it looks like the "100" actor is a latecomer to the Neil Gaiman party. Whittle has just admitted that only started reading the 2001 novel after getting the lead role in the Starz series. Nevertheless, he wants everyone to know that the season finale will shock non-readers and fans of the book. Does this mean one of the major characters will be killed off early in a way that was not included in the novel?
Ricky Whittle recently spoke with io9, where he revealed that he had not read "American Gods" prior to landing the role of Shadow Moon. Nevertheless, he quickly took on the Neil Gaiman novel which he called "a page-turner." Whittle also admitted that he is already looking forward to Season 2 of the Starz show.
Book readers already know that Shadow Moon will end up working for the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, a job that throws him right in the middle of a war between deities. However, Ricky Whittle promises that this will only be the tip of the iceberg because the "American Gods" TV series has changed not only the timeline but the storyline as well. It’s going to be fresh for their eyes," Whittle shared. "Even the season finale is not in the books." So does this mean someone important will end up being killed off before the first season concludes?
The changes in the "American Gods" TV series that Ricky Whittle teased are not just little tweaks made to keep book readers guessing. Neil Gaiman confessed to Entertainment Weekly that he had conspired with co-creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green on what should be kept from the show in case he finally publishes the sequel to his novel. Gaiman even mentioned, "this little scene" that could be very important if the series makes it to the fifth season. Could this be the possible death of one of the main characters? "American Gods" premieres on Starz on April 30.
