BBC Three Suffers Backlash Following Its Discriminating Post About Singers Britney Spears & Ed Sheeran

BBC Three suffers backlash after posting a photo on Twitter on April Fool's Day. The popular 2007 photo of Pop singer Britney Spears shaving her head was photoshopped with English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran's face and the channel posted it on social media. The photo though, has been deleted but fans were able to take screenshots of the said post.

Apparently, fans of both Britney Spears and Ed Sheeran were unhappy upon seeing the channel's Twitter post saying that it was totally out of the line. "BREAKING NEWS. Ed Sheeran has gone full 2007 Britney," the channel posted. Some said that Spears' mental health issue is not something that anyone would make fun of. Others say that BBC Three is being disrespectful to people who are suffering serious issues.

Fans of Britney Spears and Ed Sheeran said that the channel is discriminating people and it's certainly a low blow. Twitter user Shane Telford @MrShaneReaction was among those who were able to take screenshots of BBC Three's post. "The BBC announced that in 2017 they'd be challenging the discrimination and tackling the stigma of mental health. They tweeted this today," reads his caption on the screenshot image. Fans immediately reacted Telford's post and it has since been retweeted 895 times.

Apparently, all fans didn't like the channel's April Fool's joke. Fans of Britney Spears and Ed Sheeran described the post as distasteful especially that BBC Three has recently announced that it would deal with the stigma of mental health issues through its series of programming. Another Twitter user @CarlyMcGx reacted to the post. She said that getting fake pregnancy jokes on April Fool's Day is bad enough but for the channel to laugh at mental health is certainly distasteful.

Meanwhile, despite of BBC Three's discriminating post, Ed Sheeran triumphs in his music career. Forbes reports that the singer is leading in Britain in the Official Top 40 biggest singles and albums of the year to date. Britney Spears continues her music career by touring this summer.
