Bella Hadid has no qualms declaring she is a Muslim, and she's proud of it. In the latest issue of Porter magazine, Hadid expressed her thoughts about Donald Trump's travel ban, and participating in New York's protest in fighting for Muslim human rights.
Bella Hadid's father, Mohamed Hadid was a Muslim refugee when he first came to the United States. Born in Nazareth, he also lived in Syria and Lebanon before settling in America, per Vogue. The travel ban was issued in order to keep people from Islamic countries like Syria.
The executive order closed the country's borders to refugees from all over the globe. This included families escaping war and slaughter in Syria. This also suspends immigration from several countries who are predominantly Muslim, per New York Times. This was something Bella Hadid did not like at all. Furthermore, human rights activists strongly condemned President Trump's actions. They described it as a sanctioned religious persecution disguised to look like a vigilant effort to make the United States a safer place.
Bella Hadid shared her father had always been religious and always prayed with them. Thus, she is a proud Muslim. When asked about participating with the demonstration held in January, Hadid explained why she chose to join the cause. She came from a very diverse background and has had incredible experience all over the globe. She learned we're all just people who deserve kindness and respect. Respect and kindness shouldn't be withheld from people simply because of their ethnicities because it's wrong. People need to be compassionate with one another whenever possible, Hadid added, per USA Today.
Bella Hadid signed up for IMG Models back in 2014. Last December, she was voted as "Model of the Year". She is the daughter of Yolanda Foster and younger sister to fellow fashion model Gigi Hadid. She also dated The Weeknd for over two years before their breakup in November last year.
