There is little doubt that "San Junipero" was the most memorable episode in the previous season of "Black Mirror". After all, the sweet nostalgic storyline had a happy ending that is rare in the new Netflix series. But is there any truth behind a possible sequel that will reunite beloved couple Kelly and Yorkie in "Black Mirror" Season 4? Creator Charlie Brooker has shot down all hope but offered some updates on what to expect from the 6 new episodes.
Charlie Brooker has spoken to The Telegraph about the possibility of bringing back Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis for a sequel. Unfortunately, the "Black Mirror" Season 4 creator isn't very optimistic about the idea. "I'm terrified of 'San Junipero' in a way because I think we sort of captured lightning in a bottle there," Brooker stated. He then added that the series "can't really do the same thing again." In addition to that, "San Junipero" director Owen Harris will not be returning to work on any of the 6 new episodes of the fourth season, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
Fans will need to accept that a "San Junipero" sequel will not be happening soon, but "Black Mirror" Season 4 will still have a few light-hearted moments. Charlie Brooker shared that there will be one "overtly comic" episode that is set to have some "mainstream" humor. However, he also added to expect "some really unpleasant stuff" in the upcoming season. Jodie Foster will direct one special episode starring Rosemarie DeWitt.
The "Black Mirror" Season 4 air date has not yet been announced. However, there are speculations that the Charlie Brooker series will return to Netflix later this fall. Although none of the 6 new episodes will be a "San Junipero" sequel, fans can still expect the show to have plenty of surprises.
