Prince William and Kate Middleton have enrolled Prince George at a top prep school in South London and will begin in September. The school heavily bans its students having best friends.
The announcement comes as a surprise to many. They expected that the third in line to the throne will follow in the footsteps of his father and his uncle Prince Harry and enroll in Wetherby School, an all-boys school in West London. However, it seems that Prince William and Kate Middleton have opted for their son to be in Thomas's Battersea, a mixed-sex school, instead.
A spokesperson for Kensington Palace said in a statement that the royal couple is "delighted" to have discovered a prep school where they believe that Prince George will have "a happy and successful start to his education," according to The Daily Express. The school's headmaster, Ben Thomas, is also pleased that Prince William and Kate Middleton have chosen the school for the young prince.
"We greatly look forward to welcoming him and all of our new pupils to the school in September," Thomas said in a statement. Thomas's Battersea, with a tuition of £5,653 per term, educates around 540 young boys and girls aged four to 13. It is one of four preparatory schools in London run independently by the same family. It also has a kindergarten in the same area, where the youngest daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Princess Charlotte is expected to attend.
Thomas had hit the headlines in 2013 when it was reported that his school would be banning children from having best friends. But he clarified that he was actually more in favor of the students having multiple friends rather than one particular friend, according to The Sun. At the moment, Prince William and Kate Middleton have enrolled Prince George at a £33-a-day Montessori nursery in Norfolk.
