Harrison Ford called himself a "schmuck" in an audio recording that was released on Friday. This came after his exchange with the air traffic controller when he landed his private plane on a taxiway instead of doing it on the runway.
The "Raiders of the Lost Ark" star said he made a mistake landing in the wrong place because he was distracted by two other jets. The Federal Aviation Administration released the audio tape with the traffic controller asking for the actor's name and pilot's license. He went on to tell him that the incident was "no big deal" per Reuters. But Harrison Ford immediately responded that it was a big deal for him while looking for his license in his backpack.
No Mishap Newbie
The Feb. 13 incident of Ford with his Aviat Husky is not his first encounter with life-threatening plane mishaps. Back in 2015, Harrison Ford crashed a WW2 vintage plane when he encountered engine trouble after take-off. The plane crashed on a golf course following its take off from Santa Monica Airport per USA Today.
At around 2:25 p.m. Harrison Ford and another private pilot reported the engine failure and requested to return immediately. He was unable to reach the runway and instead crashed on the golf course. Ina Treciokas, the actor's publicist said he was "banged up" but is safe in the hospital getting medical care. He sustained injuries but they were not life-threatening. He was expected to make full recovery then.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Patrick Jones commented that Harrison Ford was an experienced pilot based on his actions. He reported engine failure and was attempting to get back on the runway. The plane will be taken to another location for further investigation.
