It may have been awhile since "Zombieland 2" updates were given, but the radio silence actually meant that the film's sequel is in production. Will Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and original cast members return?
Latest "Zombieland 2" updates reveal that the sequel to the hit 2009 film is in "active development." In an interview with Comicbook.com, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that director Reuben Fleischer has already signed on and the rest of the cast have already read the script and had positive responses.
While the sequel is slowly making its progress, the writers expressed uncertainty on the "Zombieland 2" cast. As Wernick explained, all of the original cast members have already become superstars and with a low budget, it may be a bit hard for them to get them back for the sequel.
"Zombieland 2" has been confirmed for production during the CinemaCon in 2016. As Independent reports, the announcement of the film's sequel came in the form of a logo for the next instalment.
Three years ago, Fleischer expressed uncertainty on the possibility of "Zombieland 2" coming to fruition. Speaking with Collider, the director admitted that there were no talks or plans to do a sequel to the film even though it managed to earn over $100 million out of a $20 million budget.
However, Fleischer shared the "Zombieland 2" plot should it ever become a reality. According to the director, the sequel will see the return of the same characters, but they will not only be dealing with zombies. "Like they encounter other people that they're all jockeying for positions," he explained.
