Kim Mathers, the ex-wife of rap artist Eminem, made an appearance at the Macomb County District Court on Monday. The 41-year-old faced accusations relating to the violation of her probation due to multiple drug test results that were diluted.
According to the judge, the diluted drug test results could be unintentional. He also offered a positive response towards Kim Mathers’ decision to switch to Soberlink that spontaneously conducts daily tests, as reported by WXYZ.
Such circumstances were brought about by a drunk driving accident in 2015. Through statements in court documents, it was revealed that Kim Mathers admitted to the authorities that she consumed a fifth of rum before intentionally driving off as an attempt to commit suicide.
In November 2016, Kim Mathers faced a judge to whom she issued an apology and showed remorse. She also voluntarily sought help and went into counseling even before such steps were required by the court.
Subsequently, Kim Mathers was sentenced to 12 months of probation during which she is mandated to carry on with counseling as well as regularly undergo drug tests and random testing for alcohol.
Recent court documents have shown six of Kim Mathers’ drug test results had been diluted between December 2016 and February 2017, including consecutive days in January. According to Mathers’ defense attorney, his client did not overhydrate on purpose. He claims that such aspect of drug testing is unfamiliar territory and clients typically have no idea the results have been diluted until a notice is issued.
"I did nothing wrong. I went above and beyond to prove to the court I'm compliant and that I take the judges’ orders seriously. I just want to move on," Kim Mathers said to 7 Action News.
Furthermore, her attorney shared that all 197 Soberlink tests were returned with negative results; a hair sample test also came back negative, as noted by CBS Detroit. According to Judge Douglas Shepard, he has been impressed with Kim Mathers’ decision to proactively demonstrate her compliance with the law. She is set to carry on serving her probation.
