Variety Magazine is holding its Power Of Women event in New York City. This year, it will honor the likes of Jessica Chastain, Blake Lively and Audra McDonald for their humanitarian work.
The three actresses will be awarded alongside broadcaster Gayle King, who is also the best friend of talk show host Oprah Winfrey, former First Daughter of the United States Chelsea Clinton and media executive Shari Redstone. Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, the Group Publisher and Chief Revenue Officer of Variety, expressed her delight in honoring the women for the event, which is now in its fourth year.
Stearns went on to praise all six women for their "inspirational" commitment to philanthropy, according to Hollywood. Jessica Chastain is being honored for her work in supporting Planned Parenthood. The event will be held on April 21 at Cipriani Midtown in New York. It will be hosted by "Saturday Night Live" comedienne Vanessa Bayer.
Jessica Chastain has had a busy week. She made a guest appearance on "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night to promote her newest film "The Zookeeper's Wife." The star then took part in a game of charades. She joined Team Fallon and were up against Tariq of The Roots and "Smurfs: The Lost Village" star Joe Manganiello.
A few hours prior to her guest appearance on the talk show, Jessica Chastain guested on the AOL Build Speaker Series in New York City, alongside "The Zookeeper's Wife" director Niki Caro. In an interview, she says that she prefers to portray roles that "challenge the status quo" and defy what women are expected to do.
"I think every woman is strong. I think I just choose parts that are well-written female roles," Jessica Chastain said, according to the Daily Mail. "The Zookeeper's Wife" is based on a real-life story about a woman who saved hundreds of animals and people after the Nazis had occupied Poland in the beginning of World War II. The film will be released on March 31. Watch her play a game of Charades below:
