Ragnar Lothbrok might already be dead but that doesn't mean that the story of "Vikings" will end anytime soon. The fifth season is set to focus on Ragnar's sons and their journey to conquer England as well as the rest of the world. But what will happen to Kattegat in "Vikings" Season 5? Could Lagertha keep ruling back home? Is it possible that Ivar the Boneless will finally kill the current Queen of Kattegat to avenge his mother's death?
In the episode "In the Uncertain Hour Before the Morning", Lagertha attacked Kattegat, usurping Aslaug and initially agreeing to give her safe passage. However, the Earl Ingstad went back on her promise and killed Aslaug as she left, as per Nerdist. There is little doubt that Lagertha's actions will prove to be a huge mistake, as evidenced by the way Aslaug smiled as she died. Does this mean Lagertha will meet her end in a similar manner? Will Ivar the Boneless murder his mother's killer in "Vikings" Season 5?

The faceoff between Lagertha and Ivar the Boneless could be happening in the upcoming season, but that doesn't mean that the new Queen of Kattegat will not be putting up a fight. Katheryn Winnick has recently shared an Instagram photo from "Vikings" Season 5 which shows her character sitting on the throne. The actress even added the hashtag, "#myassisstayingputivar". It certainly looks like these two will be playing a dangerous power game when the series returns to History this summer.
CeleBeat has previously reported on the possibility that "Vikings" Season 5 will premiere in summer. There are speculations that the series could take advantage of the delayed "Game of Thrones" Season 7 air date. This could mean that fans could see the first half of the fifth season much earlier this year. Hopefully, Lagertha and Ivar the Boneless' power play will be shown by April.
