Shemar Moore is set to return in the season finale of "Criminal Minds" Season 12. He returns a year after he had quit the program.
In the yet-to-be titled "Criminal Minds" Season 12 finale, which will air on May 10, FBI Special Agent Derek Morgan (Moore) will lend a helping hand to his former Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) in order to catch renowned serial killer Mr. Scratch (Bodhi Elfman). He is suspected to be the person behind the frame-up of criminal profiler Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler), according to TV Line.
All throughout "Criminal Minds" Season 12, Scratch had successfully evaded the BAU. He even staked Special Agent Aaron "Hotch" Hotchner's son, which forced him to send himself into the witness protection program. In reality, Thomas Gibson, who plays Hotch, was fired from the show by CBS due to an on-set incident where he had a physical altercation with writer and producer Virgil Williams.
"Criminal Minds" Season 12 had brought back Paget Brewster, who plays Special Agent Emily Prentiss, seemingly to fill the void left by Gibson after his quick departure. Moore's return in the show's May season finale would also mean a reunion for him and Brewster. The guesting comes after it was reported that Moore would top bill the cast of a pilot based on hit '70s show "SWAT, according to Digital Spy.
Moore, an original cast member, starred in the crime drama from 2005 to 2016. Appearing in 251 episodes in total, he decided to depart from the show before the first episode "Criminal Minds" Season 12 premiered, according to Entertainment Weekly. He was written out of the show by having Morgan step down from his duties as a special agent for the unit so he could spend more time with his family.
"Criminal Minds" Season 12 airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET. The show stars Brewster, Gubler, Elfman, Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, Kirsten Vangsness and Damon Gupton.
