The pressure is on for Selena Gomez with the social media queen opening up about the struggles of keeping up with her fans and disconnecting from people. Gomez’s Instagram app has already been deleted on her phone as the “Kill ‘Em with Kindness” singer felt bad every time she looked at it.
Despite being the most-followed person on the social media site, Selena Gomez’s Instagram account does not give details on her everyday life. “It had become so consuming to me. It's what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn't want to see…,” she said in Vogue’s April issue.
With Selena Gomez’s Instagram app deleted from her phone, the 24-year-old songstress’ assistant now posts photos on her behalf. This major decision came after Selena entered treatment despite the absence of exhaustion, addiction or eating disorder.
Although only briefly mentioned on Selena Gomez’s Instagram, the former Disney star stayed at a treatment facility for Lupus for two weeks in 2014. Last year, Selena sought additional aid after she canceled her Revival tour in the summer. She described tours as a “really lonely place” for her, contributing much to her anxiety and depression.
Fans may be used to seeing concert photos on Selena Gomez’s Instagram but the “It Ain’t Me” singer said she felt uncomfortable seeing a change in the crowds that come to her shows. While she had been used to holding performances for kids, there have been older crowds who smoke and drink that come to her shows.
“I'm looking into their eyes, and I don't know what to say. I couldn't say, 'Everybody, let's pinky-promise that you're beautiful!’” Selena said. “It doesn't work that way, and I know it because I'm dealing with the same s--t they're dealing with.”
The “We Don’t Talk Anymore” singer currently stays in an Airbnb within the Valley and shared how she does not go out often, except when having long drives with close friends. Despite Selena Gomez’s Instagram account being the most-followed, she insists that less than 20 people have her number. “I just really can't wait for people to forget about me,” she added.
