Whoopi Goldberg revealed her intentions to take legal action against the writer behind a fake news story that had endangered her family. She announced this on Monday in an episode of "The View."
During the show's "Hot Topics" segment, Whoopi Goldberg said that a fake news report that allegedly quoted her as saying Navy SEAL widow Carryn Owens was going after "attention" when Owens attended President Donald Trump's speech before the Congress, according to Deadline. The host says the story has risked her relationships with numerous war veterans and their significant others.
The hosts of the show had a discussion about the part when she was introduced in President Trump's speech, but Whoopi Goldberg insisted that she did not slam the woman, according to Gossip Cop. She added that the fake news story was written by someone "who just wanted to see how quickly stories he made up would spread."
The Underground Report, the publication based in Costa Rica behind the false news story, describes itself as a "news and political satire web publication" that often reports in "semi-real or mostly fictitious ways," according to the Daily Mail. Whoopi Goldberg was left unsatisfied with the disclaimer and she vowed to sue the writer. "I'm gonna get my lawyer and I'm coming for you," she warned.
On February 28, President Trump had delivered a speech before the Congress at the Capitol. He introduced Owens, the widow of Chief Petty Officer William 'Ryan' Owens who was killed during a raid in Yemen back in January. Upon being introduced, the crowd gave her a standing ovation. Whoopi Goldberg and the rest of "The View" hosts discussed the events that transpired the following day.
During the segment, Whoopi Goldberg criticized President Trump's decision to conduct the raid. She also raised the question about him introducing the Navy SEAL widow during his speech was an act to pay tribute to her late husband or "damage control."
