"Pacific Rim: Uprising" is an upcoming monster film directed by Steven DeKnight. John Boyega will play the lead role as Jake Pentecost. Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman will be returning in their roles from the original film.
According to Comicbook, John Boyega will play the son of Stacker Pentecost, one of the characters of the last film before the sequel "Pacific Rim: Uprising." Stacker was part of the first generation Jaeger pilot and the commanding office of the Jaeger Project. Jake Pentecost father, acquired terminal cancer due to the radiation of the previous Jaeger models that has no radiation shielding.
According to MStarsNews, John Boyega has shared a photo on Instagram featuring him on the set. He is seen in the picture sitting on a piece of equipment. The caption of the said picture says, "Pentecost #pacificrimuprising." This picture is a tease to the filming of "Pacific Rim: Uprising".
The director of "Pacific Rim: Uprising" Steven DeKnight previously shared a picture on Instagram. According to Aceshowbiz, the image featured a new logo of the film and it was shared a few days before Boyega's picture. The logo resembles the prequel of the upcoming film "Pacific Rim: Uprising" but it has a word Uprising at the bottom.
In the previous film, the alien monster called Kaiju emerged from an interdimensional portal called "The Breach" at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. They manage to battle and closed the interdimensional portal using a giant robot called Jaegers. In the upcoming "Pacific Rim: Uprising," the portal might re-open and the son of the previous commanding officer of the Jaegar project will save the world.
Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny and Jing Tian will join John Boyega in the film. "Pacific Rim: Uprising" is currently being filmed, and is expected to hit theaters February 23, 2018. Let's all wait for updates of the upcoming film.
