The news of this reunion tour sprouted mid last year, months short before the British group Spice Girls turned 20. Some members of this 90s' hit girl group shared hints on a possible team up with another 90s' sensation, Backstreet Boys, for a reunion tour. Year 2016 marks the 20th year of their very first hit single, "Wannabe", which immediately ranked 1 on hit charts in 37 countries.
While Melanie B. consistently left trail late last year towards a possible reunion, fans' burning hopes then were slightly put out when Victoria Beckham unfortunately has no time for such events in her busy schedule. Over a decade after the Spice Girls were formed, Posh Spice, as she was known for, found her magic in the fashion industry. In 2007, she opened her own clothing line, which without a doubt has turned into a success; eventually, the most fashionable Spice Girl was a name respected in the industry of fashion.
Since then, confusion and broken hearts have been all over the Internet. The Telegraph sought for an answer to this and through a spokesperson for Beckham got an answer: "Beckham had a fantastic time as a spice girl and loved performing at the Olympics closing ceremony, however with her family and fashion commitments, there are no plans to perform again."
Like rubbing salt to the bleeding wound, Melanie C. stated that she won't be joining anything without Beckham. A Spice Girls reunion will never be the same without Posh Spice and Sporty Spice; it can't go on with just Baby Spice, Ginger Spice and Scary Spice. But apparently, Scary Spice welcomed the New Year without plans of giving up in her hopes of a reunion, says Mirror UK.
"It is our 20th anniversary this year and it would be rude not to celebrate, so hopefully, something will be happening pretty soon," Mel B told Alan Carr on his New Year's Eve episode. On the other hand, rumours continue to spread over a possible Spice Girls tour with the Backstreet Boys.
Nick Carter didn't really deny the allegations when asked about it, nor did he confirm it. He shared to E! News that a reunion "would be the last hurrah" for the two 90s' groups. The Backstreet Boys did several reunion tours and projects in the recent past, while the Spice Girls' last performance together was during the Olympics closing ceremony in London in 2012.
Just like how Scary Spice puts it, let's keep our hopes up since nothing is put in stone yet. If Beckham cannot do a tour, she might still indulge the fans over one last performance with the rest of the girls.
