Jamie Foxx until now is still taking a beating at the various social media sites for his "unique" rendition last night of the national anthem at the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao fight. "Both Boxers should take the first minute of the 1st round and knock out Jamie Foxx for butchering the Anthem!!" reads a tweet from Larry the Cable Guy. "If there's anything we all learned from this, it's that Jamie Foxx can't sing," reads another from comedian Kathleen Madigan.
Other examples of the verbal jabs that were thrown at Foxx's singing include: "The only real violence last night was @iamjamiefoxx's cruel and unusual torture of the National Anthem"; "The real fight was between Jamie Foxx and the national anthem"; "Jamie Foxx killed the national anthem. And by killed it I mean it was like road kill"; "Jamie Foxx's national anthem had more twists and turns than the fight"; "Jamie Foxx is murdering the national anthem. More carnage than Django Unchained"; "Wonder if either of the fighters can stand as much punishment as Jamie Foxx just handed out to the national anthem?"; and "Jamie Foxx shouted hallelujah after the anthem because he thought Jesus would save him from that performance."
Dressed in a cream satin tuxedo jacket, the 47-year-old actor and singer was introduced as a "multi-talented entertainment superstar." Then he took his earpiece out which TMZ said was a sign of technical trouble. Foxx strained to reach the high notes as he delivered a "remix" version of the Star-Spangled Banner, prompting Twitter user @mercsuncheese to observe: "Honestly Jamie Foxx struggling to reach the high notes during the national anthem was a better fight than what I've just seen." Music station VH1 described the performance as "very cringe worthy, especially the 'Hallelujah' ending." Actor Jake Gyllenhaal was caught on tape unable to contain his laughter at Foxx's singing.
