The Loch Ness monster has been truly a fascinating cryptid. So much that it has till date kept our interests up to find if out if it is real. Ever since that famed photo, termed the Surgeon's Photo was released in 1934, showing an unidentified creature surfacing the water of Loch Ness, there has been so much speculation on the existence of this creature.
Recently Google published a Doodle on the monster, developed by Doodler Mark Cruickshank. However, he feels that this clearly a hoax and gets people's spirit up as they love such stories.
So much has been contemplated about "Nessie" that several 'facts' have also been developed around here. The first sighting of the monster was supposed to be close fifteen centuries ago by St. Columba in the loch ness water. Loch Ness is a large freshwater lake in the North of Scotland, which interestingly doesn't freeze at all. There have been several search expedition, including government sponsored ones, in which one cost One Million Pounds, to find the monster. In fact an autogyro (rotorcraft) was also used to find Nessie.
No one knows how it looks but some have been able to estimate its largest hump to be 50 feet long. A circus owned put up a bounty of GBP 20,000 for anyone who could bring him the monster alive. There have also been associated myths developed by the Scottish Highlanders to prevent children from going to the lake. Till date, over a thousand people have claims to have seen the Loch Ness monster.
There has been so much trivia associated with Nessie. In fact a prankster claimed to have located it on Google maps. And much bizarrely hundred athletes that were participating on a triathlon near the lake were each insured for one million pounds against bites of the Loch Ness monster.
