Hawkgirl and Rip Hunter will reportedly be among the characters that will be appearing in The CW's upcoming Arrow/The Flash spinoff series now in the works in time for next mid-season's programming schedules.
Broadway actress Ciara Renee, according to Deadline, has been signed on to play the role of Kendra Saunders, also known as Hawkgirl in the DC Comics mythology. In the new series, Saunders is described as a young woman who is just beginning to learn that she has been repeatedly reincarnated over the centuries. When provoked, her ancient warrior persona manifests itself, along with wings that grow out of her back, earning her the moniker Hawkgirl.
Arthur Darvill, best known for his portrayal as as Rory Williams, one of the Eleventh Doctor's companions in the Doctor Who TV series, is likewise cast in The CW's upcoming show where he will take on the role of Rip Hunter, described as a roguish time traveler who hides the strains of being responsible for history itself behind a facade of charm and wit.
Renée and Darvill now join a growing cast in the still untitled TV series that already includes Brandon Routh who plays Ray Palmer/The Atom), Wentworth Miller who plays Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell who plays Mick Rory/Heat Wave, Victor Garber who plays Dr. Martin Stein and Caity Lotz whose ost-Sara Lance/Black Canary role has not yet been disclosed.
While the Arrow/The Flash spinoff series still has no official title, it has been described as "a superhero team-up show." Since the series is in the early stages of development right now, Deadline cautions that other Arrow and Flash characters could also show up in the spin-off later in addition to those already named. Also, the entertainment news site has gathered from the network that the show will include three "major" DC Comics characters who have never appeared in a TV series before.
Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim and Sarah Schechter are executive producing the project.
