‘Barely Lethal’s’ Rating: From R Rating to PG-13

Teen action-comedy Barely Lethal is no longer rated R, according to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter.

On Thursday, the Classification and Rating Appeals Board overturned the R rating given to the movie for sexual material and teen drinking. Barely Lethal, starring Hailee Steinfeld, is now rated PG-13 for sexual material, teen drinking, language, drug references and some action violence.

Late last month, DirecTV and A24 Film picked up U.S. rights to the film and are reportedly planning an April release on DirecTV and in select theaters, although no official date has been set.

The film, which also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Jessica Alba, follows a 16-year-old trained assassin (Steinfeld) who runs away to live a normal high school life, only to discover that fitting in isn't as easy as she would have hoped.

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, Jaime King, Thomas Mann, Rob Huebel and Dove Cameron round out the cast.

Brett Ratner and John Cheng produced Barely Lethal via their RatPac Entertainment, along with Hopscotch Pictures' Sukee Chew and RKO Pictures' Ted Hartley and Vanessa Coifman. Main Street Films, which holds the U.S. rights, also is a producer on the movie.

In another news, Steinfeld will be seen next in Term Life, an upcoming crime-thriller film based on the graphic novel of the same name. It is directed by Peter Billingsley and produced by lead actor Vince Vaughn.

Steinfeld will also be seen in the sequel to the sleeper hit, Pitch Perfect 2 that will be shown on May 15, 2015.
