"He can't eat so I feed him. He's got a feeding tube. I have to feed him three times a day," Celine Dion, 46, tearfully told ABC News reporter Deborah Roberts about her manager and husband René Angélil's battle with throat cancer.
Angélil, 73, looking frail, was also pictured while posing with Dion during the interview with Roberts. They have been married since 1994 and have three sons together, namely René Charles, 14, and fraternal twins Eddy and Nelson, 4.
"[Today,] we are taking life one day at a time. [But] we are choosing to live," Celine told ABC News. She also said she has already walked through her three sons about their father's ongoing battle with cancer.
The award-winning singer and bestselling recoding star took an indefinite leave of absence from her Las Vegas residency to care for Angélil after his second cancer diagnosis last year.
She announced on August 13 last year the indefinite postponement of all her show business activities, including the Celine residency show, and the cancellation of her planned Asia Tour because of the worsening condition of her husband's health following the surgical removal of a cancerous tumor in his throat in December the previous year.
"Celine Dion has decided to postpone all of her show business activities indefinitely, in order to focus 100% of her attention on her husband Rene, their family, and associated health issues," said her press release then. "I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support."
Last week, Dion's representative relayed the news that the singer will be resuming her residency at Ceasars Palace on August 27. She is set to return to the stage with a new act according to her spokesperson. "The fans, they know that I'm an open book. I sing...that's the only thing I know," she reportedly said regarding her decision to resume her nightly Las Vegas show at the Colosseum.
