Minnie Driver, 45, who currently stars as Fiona Bowa on NBC's About a Boy, has landed the female lead on the CBS comedy pilot Happy Life (aka Joe Time) according to TV Line. However, she would only be credited as a guest star in the pilot and take the Happy Life role in second position to NBC's bubble series About a Boy. Thus, if NBC renews her comedy show for a third season, she would remain with that show and CBS would have to recast for Happy Life. But if NBC opts to cancel her series, and CBS pick up Happy Life to series, she would stay on as a Happy Life series regular.
Happy Life centers on family man Joe, played by Steven Weber whose TV credits include Wings, Helix, Chasing Life, among others, who struggles with the fact that everyone around him is pursuing their dreams and enjoying their lives more than he is. Driver is set to play the female lead as Maggie, Joe's wife, described as a former doctor who left the grind behind to embark on a new career teaching people "mindful meditation" out of her home studio. She's also the mother of Lucy and Andrew.
Also confirmed in the cast are Duane Martin as Theodore, Joe's successful music-producer neighbor, and Eric Peterson as Scott, Joe's gay brother, who works with him in the family construction business, along with Rita Moreno, Alli Kinzel, Noland Ammon and Bill Smitrovich.
Happy Life will have Bill Wrubel as writer and James Burrows as director. Wrubels and Burrows will also be executive producing the multi-camera comedy TV series.
Aside from her TV roles, Driver will also be seen soon on the big-screen opposite Frank Grillo in a thriller film written and directed by Aram Rappaport titled A Conspiracy on Jekyll Island which is now in post-production. Also co-starring in the upcoming film are Maggie Q, Dianna Agron, AnnaSophia Robb, Joh Leguizamo, Mary McCormack and Ed Westwicke.
