Michael Chicklis and Cheryl Hines have signed on to join Flula Borg and Rachel DiPillo in the cast of NBC's pilot sitcom Cuckoo, an adaptation of BBC Three's hit comedy series of the same name that starred Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg during its maiden season. It follows the story of a conservative middle-class family which got roused from its relatively normal routines when their daughter comes home from a summer abroad already married to a very unusual gentleman named Cuckoo who has an all-loving attitude, who does not have a job, and who loves to take drugs.
Chicklis, 51, last seen on the small-screen as Dell Toledo in American Horror Story: Freakshow, is set to next play Ken, a successful lawyer who is determined to rid himself of his son-in-law Cuckoo. Hines, 49, who stars as Dallas Royce in Suburbatory, will portray Lori, a carefree fun-loving woman who sees the best in people and thinks her daughter's new eccentric husband is bringing about a change for the better in their lives. DiPillo, 24, whose Andi is a recurring character in the hit series Jane the Virgin, portrays Rachel, a recent college graduate who just spent a semester in Thailand where she met and married Cuckoo. Cast in the title role is German DJ and YouTube sensation Flula Borg who will also be seen in the upcoming Pitch Perfect 2 sequel movie. Griffin Gluck will also be co-starring in Cuckoo.
Robin French and Kieron Quirke, the co-creators of the original BBC Three series, will serve as executive producers and writers on the NBC remake. Tim Long who will be serving as showrunner is also attached as executive producer. The original BBC Three series' executive producers, Ash Atalla and Dan Hine, will also serve as producers in the NBC remake.
