In a review by the Newser, action thriller "The Gunman" starring Sean Penn takes him to action and the question if he can also do it (just like Liam Neeson did in "Taken") arises.

Two-time Academy award winner Penn does this action film, which is very different from the past ones he did.  Penn has done great dramatic roles which have no action at all but still his acting shone.

In the movie "The Gunman" which was directed by Pierre Morrel who also helmed "Taken".  The movie starts one morning in Congo where Penn plays Jim Terrier, an ex-military man who was out to assassinate the mining minister as instructed by their bosses.  He is joined by his special forces band and getting the job done goes back to their own lives.  Jim also doesn't tell his girlfriend Annie who has no idea what he does.

Jim flees Congo after the mission and disappears as he needs to hide.  After eight years spent in Europe, he goes back to Africa getting a humanitarian job.  Maybe he is trying to ease the guilt he is feeling killing the minister years ago.  After his workplace was attacked, he was seen instructing some killers with machine guns so he leaves once more trying to evade the killers out to get him.

Jim goes back to London and was able to track his old friends Stanley and Cox and tells him that some of their group members have already died.  But Cox leaves him with a warning to keep his eyes open.  Next stop is Barcelona and he met another team member Felix, who has somehow married his old girlfriend Annie.

With men still trying to kill Jim, they end up in Gibraltar with much action.  He met with an Interpol agent who tells him to take care.  Next scene shows him again in Barcelona where he rescues Annie with lots of men killed and finale takes place in a bull fighting ring.

Will Penn succeed in his gun-toting killing spree performance?  Director Morel thinks so.  So will the movie goes when they see the film starting March 20.
