Walt Disney Pictures' Tomorrowland, the science fiction adventure mystery movie inspired by a Disney theme park attraction of the same name, will be hitting the theater screens on May 22. The international trailer for the upcoming film, after airing briefly in Japan and elsewhere, has now been taken down off the Internet. Apparently, Disney deems that the new teaser clip showed much too many spoilers for comfort. It even already showed the connection between the Tomorrowland theme park, and Tomorrowland, the futuristic place in the movie "where nothing is impossible." According to the teaser, the futuristic place was created by the world's geniuses, Einstein and Edison among them, while the theme park was set up by Disney to cover the location of that place.
In any event, Tomorrowland, originally titled 1952, tells the story of "A teenage girl, a genius middle-aged man (who was kicked out of Tomorrowland), and a pre-pubescent girl robot's attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth."
Directed by Brad Bird based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Jensen and Damon Lindelof, the film is headbilled by George Clooney as Frank Miller, the middle-aged man who was kicked out of Tomorrowland when he was a boy (played by Thomas Robinson). Britt Robertson will play the role of the teenage girl Casey Newton while Raffy Cassidy will play the part of the pre-pubescent robot Athena and they will both be helping Frank in his Tomorrowland quest. Hugh Laurie is David Nix, the main villain in the movie who kicked out Frank when he was a boy and who becomes mayor of Tomorrowland. Others in the cast include Kathryn Hahn, Tim McGraw, Keegan-Michael Key and Judy Greer.
The movie wrapped up filming in February and is in post-production. Asked what to expect from his upcoming movie, George Clooney during Reddit's AMA (Ask Me Anything) said: ""I literally have a harness on and I've been hanging from 30 ft from 4 different blue screens and literally as we are talking they are all staring at me because I had to get down to do this. I have all these wire hanging off of me....Brad is a really good guy with a wild imagination. If I don't screw it up, it will be a great film. You have to be careful what you say because everything is top secret, so I don't want to ruin it by telling you that everyone dies in the end. Oops, I've said too much." But of course, everyone knows that Clooney is an incorrigible habitual prankster. The official US trailer is still available on the web.
