Andy Samberg, 36, best known for starring in the hit Brooklyn Nine-Nine sitcom TV series and for his long history as a Saturday Night Live regular, will be hosting the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards program, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced on Thursday.

Samberg himself confirmed the announcement with a press statement saying: "Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers! Like, in general you should buckle your seat belts in your car. In fact, even if you're not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt. It can be dangerous on the road. Also, if you're not an Emmy viewer, you should strongly consider becoming one this year, because I'm hosting, and it's gonna be a wild ride. So buckle your seat belts."

On Samberg's choice as this year's host for the Emmys, Gary Newman and Dana Walden, Chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group, released a statement that reads: "The moment the Emmy Awards' host was brought up, we said it had to be Andy. He is fearless, hilarious, an award-winning comedian, singer, writer and actor with incredible live TV experience. We know he'll deliver the laughs and give viewers an incredible night they will enjoy."

Chairman and CEO of the Television Academy Bruce Rosenblum, in concurring, added: "It's wonderfully fitting that we have Andy Samberg, an Emmy Award winner himself, as our host for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards. Andy has excelled in all aspects of the television universe, both from behind and in front of the camera. His humor, insights and charisma will be an exciting addition to our annual celebration of television's best and brightest."

The 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, which will honor the best in US prime time TV programming that aired from June 1, 2014, until May 31, 2015, as chosen by the Television Academy, will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, California, and will be broadcast live by Fox.

Last year's Emmy show hosted by fellow Saturday Night Live alumni Seth Meyers was the second-highest viewed broadcast of the yearly awarding event ever.
