Supergirl TV series has released the first pictures of Melissa Benoist, who plays Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl.
From a report by US Weekly, Benoist gets her red-and-blue cape in the debut promotional images for the CBS show. The Glee alum, 26, wears the iconic accessory with a coordinating ensemble, featuring a deep blue long-sleeved top emblazoned with the red logo, a gold belt, and a red skirt.
Sporting strawberry blonde locks, Benoist also wears tights and over-the-knee dark red boots. The actress looks strong and powerful in the photos, giving a stare as she poses with her hands on her hips.
The Supergirl getup was conceptualized by Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who was celebrated for her previous work on Alice in Wonderland, Chicago, and Memoirs of a Geisha.
"In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today," Atwood said in a release.
Benoist, who previously made appearances in movies like Tennessee and Whiplash and shows including Homeland and The Good Wife, stars in Supergirl opposite Mehcad Brooks, Calista Flockhart, David Harewood, and Chyler Leigh. She plays DC Comic's Kara Zor-El, the Kryptonian cousin of Superman, whose own powers lead her to becoming Supergirl. The series is expected to debut on CBS this fall.
The premise of the show is: Twenty-four year old Kara Zor-El, who is taken in by the Danvers family when she was 12 after being sent away from Krypton, must learn to embrace her powers after previously hiding them. The Danvers teach her to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, setting her on her journey of heroism.
