"The Vampire Diaries" lead actor Ian Somerhalder does his directorial debut for the series' season 6 episode which will be shown next week with exciting scenes for the Mystic Falls residents.
"The Downward Spiral", Episode 16 shows how Caroline (Candice Accola) deals with the death of her mother changes her and made her friends do everything to save her. Here's the synopsis for the episode:
"After her mother's death, Caroline shuts off her being human which makes her friends desperate to save her. Caroline, still being hazy on how to handle her new self and with Stefan (Paul Wesley) trying to help her puts her to more dangerous situations. Meanwhile, Stefan and Elena (Nina Dobrev) do everything to help Caroline in time."
Damon, Somerhalder's character is facing difficulties of his own as he learned several details from Kai (Chris Wood) about what is happening in the prison world. Damon has discovered unexpected news that involves Lily (guest star Annie Wersching), Stefan's mother and his own mother.
Another character Enzo (Michael Malarkey) is getting more curious on Sarah Salvatore (another guest star Tristan Mays) who is the Salvatore brothers' great niece. Bonnie (Kat Graham) is seen adjusting to the present dimension and asks for more time to blend in.
Somerhalder has confided in an interview with the Wizard World's Cleveland Comic Con on how he feels about his directorial debut and how much he enjoyed being on the helm for this episode. This was posted in an article on Travelers Today.
The first-time director Somerhalder boasted on how incredible the story written by Caroline Dries and Brian Young was. He stated that his cast or his brothers and sisters in the series had his back. He also thanked Warner Bros for being the nicest environment to learn more and for spending lots of money to create a wonderful 42 minutes of an episode.
