Sharknado 3, the third installment in the satirical made-for-TV disaster film about a waterspout that lifts sharks out of oceans and deposits them in populated urban areas, eating people and otherwise creating mayhem, is set to debut in July on Syfy.
While the original Sharknado caused widespread panic and mayhem in Los Angeles in 2013, and Sharknado 2 did much about the same in New York City in 2014, the upcoming Sharknado 3 which will be set in Washington, D.C., this time and, as per Syfy's teaser, will "cause mass destruction in the nation's capital" before it roars down the Eastern Seaboard.
Produced by The Asylum, Sharknado 3 will notably star entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban of Shark Tank as the US President, while controversial conservative commentator and author Ann Coulter will play the Vice President.
Cuban and Coulter will be joining an ensemble cast that includes Bo Derek as May, the mother to star Tara Reid's April; Jerry Springer, appearing as Mr. White, a manic tourist; 'N Sync's Chris Kirkpatrick as a pool lifeguard; and Chris Jericho, who will play Bruce, a roller-coaster ride operator. Like Reid's April, Ian Ziering will return to reprise his role as Fin. As with the first and second Sharknado movies, surprise cameo appearances from other celebrities may be expected. Anthony C. Ferrante will also return to direct the latest chapter in the apparently continuing Sharknado saga.
In related news, about 30-40 members of the Sharknado 3 production crew voted to walk off the job in search of an International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) contract. As gathered by Deadline, the crew are now seeking a health and pension agreement with the production management. They were seen picketing outside the Burbank-based offices of The Asylum, Sharknado 3's producers. As observed by Deadline, last year's Sharknado 2 was done under an IATSE agreement, but this latest version of the franchise has not.
