Intel has been lagging in competition in the sales of system-on-chips recently. It seems to have made a significant comeback through the release of Atom x3, x5 and x7 SoC's. Intel named its new release 'Cherry Trail-T' which targets the Android and Windows 10 tablets along with a 'Sofia' that would be a low-cost LTE supported chip.

The Cherry Trail-T was revealed alongside Intel's Gen8 in the Mobile World Congress. The Aton x5 and x7 would demonstrate double the power of the 3D graphics functionality versus the previous 'Bay Trail-T'. The Atom x5 and x7 would be quad-core in design and will be out in the market ranging from $119 to almost $500 in tablets. These tablets are going to be manufactured by Asus, HP, and Toshiba.

Atom x7 will be the fastest of the SoC's even though featuring a very mild difference from the x5. It will have no integrated baseband but will have a pairing with Intel's third-generation XMM 7360 LTE modem

Atom x3 aims at Android and Windows-based value level smartphones and tablets. The tablets using atom x3 will be released by around 20 companies in Asia. The Atom x3 would integrate two or four 64 bit processors with 28nm Atom cores with ISP's and integrated 3G or 4G LTE basebands.

Intel has also advertised it's new Intel Wireless-AC 8x70 (WiFi) Intel Wireless-GNSS 2×00 (location), and Intel Wireless-NFC 4000 (near field communication) chips

Intel now seems in a better shape to compete even in the Android market than just the Internet and wearables.
