As soon as Florida officially became the 36th Gay Marriage State in the nation, celebrity chef Art Smith set out to throw some over-the-top free wedding celebration for some lucky 101 gay couples. He asked Food Network's Guy Fieri to officiate at the mass wedding held during last weekend's South Beach Wine & Food Festival in Miami.
Fieri came and officiated over the nuptial ceremony garbed in a purple suit, of course with his trademark many rings and his meticulously groomed multi-colored goatee. According to E!Online, the author and popular TV personality agreed to provide the service to honor his late sister who was reportedly a lesbian. Fieri himself is happily married to wife Lori, with whom he has two grown sons, Hunter and Ryder. They all live in Northern California where he keeps his collection of classic American cars.
Aside from Guy Fieri, Smith also enlisted the help of other friends to make the celebration possible. Celebrity chef and baker Duff Goldman provided the wedding cake while local star Chi Chi LaRue organized the subsequent dance party at the reception hall.
According to Smith, he chose the number 101 after the movie "101 Dalmatians" to shame Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi whom he likened to the film's villainess. Said he to 680 News: "We have our own Cruella De Vil, Pam Bondi. She was determined that she was going to prevent equality from coming to Florida. For a state known for sunshine, it was living in the darkness when it came to LGBT rights and it was important to acknowledge that." Bondi is reportedly appealing the rulings favoring same sex marriage said the local news radio station.
