Harris Lee Wittels, the writer, actor and executive producer for Parks and Recreations who was found dead at age 30 on February 19 inside his Los Angeles home, will be given a fitting special tribute during the show's one-hour farewell episode, titled "One Last Ride," which will be airing tonight, February 24. According to Deadline, the finale will end with a We Love You, Harris message from the cast and crew of the long-running TV series.
Wittels had been on Parks And Recreation since Season 1. Working as a writer, he was responsible for scripting several fan-favorite episodes including "Practice Date," "Media Blitz" and "Filibuster."
Behind the scenes, he also worked, initially, as co-producer, and eventually, as executive co-producer. An occasional actor, Willis also guest starred in the show as Harris, Pawnee's Animal Control guy.
Regarding Wittels, Adam Scott (who plays Ben Wyatt) on his Twitter page wrote: "I am at a loss as to what to say about Harris Wittels aka Carl Sjunior, so I'll say this: He is loved and missed by so many people, including me, Bryan Pieces...and if you think you have a problem, reach out for help & support before it's too late. Your friends & family will be grateful."
Aziz Ansari (who plays Tom Haverford) in a long Tumblr post in part said: "Bye Harris. I miss you and I'm glad I got to enjoy your genuinely amazing and original presence. I wish I got to you know even more. I hope people reading this realize what an incredibly unique man you were, and what brutal a loss it is for those who knew you and also for those who never had the pleasure. This has been so hard to write because I just keep wanting to add more and more stories and more jokes and more everything, but I'd never be able to finish it. You are far too special to sum up in any kind of piece like this. You were one of the best and we all will miss you."
Amy Poehler in an interview with Variety on the day Wittels was found dead said: "Today, I lost a friend. I lost a dear, young friend in my life who was struggling with addiction. I'm sharing it with you because life and death live so close together, and we walk that fine line everyday. When things happen in our lives, we turn to the people that we love... and we lean on people, in a hope that we will ease our pain."
