Kristen Bell Won't Let Her Un-Vaccinated Friends Near Her Children

House of Lies star Kristen Bell, 34, have two very young daughters with her actor husband Dax Shepard, 40. She won't let any of her friends near them unless they are vaccinated. Why? She told The Hollywood Reporter: "When Lincoln was born [in March 2013], the whooping cough epidemic was growing, and before she was 2 months old, we simply said [to friends], 'You have to get a whooping cough vaccination if you are going to hold our baby.'" She is doing the same thing for her baby daughter Delta, born December 19. "It's a very simple logic: I believe in trusting doctors, not know-it-alls," she said.

Bell's comments, says Global News, may be timely now. Measles, mumps, whooping cough and chicken pox, which are all preventable with vaccines, and which were virtually wiped out in North America, are slowly resurfacing because of one culprit: a steadily growing anti-vaccination movement. Quoting Dr. Gerald Adams, a Queen's University Professor and director of infection control at Kingston General Hospital, the Canadian news provider wrote: "When people say some of this might be related to low vaccine rates among people, that's a huge understatement. It's all because of vaccination rates falling. It's 100 per cent blamed on the fact that people aren't getting vaccinated."

One celebrity who is suggesting that parents do not have to have their kids vaccinated is Clueless star Alicia Silverstone. In her parenting book The Kind Mama: A Simple Guide to Supercharged Fertitlity, a Radiant Pregnant, a Sweeter Birth, and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning, she said: "While there has not been a conclusive study of the negative side effects of such a rigorous one-size-fits-all, shoot-'em-up schedule, there is increasing anecdotal evidence from doctors who have gotten distressed phone calls from parents claiming their child was 'never the same' after receiving a vaccine. And I personally have friends whose babies were drastically affected this way."
