Pirates of the Caribbean 5, or Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has revealed the official synopsis for the upcoming Johnny Depp film. Along with Depp, the movie stars Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally and Stephen Graham.
Synopsis: In the new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea...including him. Captain Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
Dead Men Tell No Tales will film entirely at Village Roadshow Studios and on locations within Queensland, Australia.
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 was originally supposed to released next year, in 2015, but now they have revealed that they have pushed the official release date to July 7, 2017.
The July 7, 2017 date right now is pretty wide open (granted its over 2 years out) so it has a chance to stand on its own for great box office sales. It will have some competition from Fantastic Four 2, which is set to release on July 14, 2017, and Despicable Me 3, which opens June 30, 2017.
The last movie released in the "Pirates" franchise, was 2011′s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which was not critically received as the best movie in the series but still grossed more than $1 billion around the world.
The fifth film will use Kon-Tiki directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who took over for Rob Marshall (who in turn had taken over for Gore Verbinski.) The long awaited movie will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
The movie franchise began in 2003, with the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Johnny Depp brought to life Captain Jack Sparrow and has become one of his most recognizable characters in his illustrious career (and also a favorite halloween costume for countless people).
Through four movies, the franchise has grossed $3.7 billion worldwide at the box office since 2003.
