The adventure, fantasy film Seventh Son by the Legendary Pictures is ready to hit the theaters this weekend. Sergey Badrov's direction, filmed in 2012, was supposed to be released in February 2013 when the company responsible for the effects in the film went bankrupt. Following its bail by Legendary, the release date was pushed back to October and then January 2014. However, Legendary decided to get into a new contract with Universal and further push back the release date to February 2015.
Seventh Son is inspired from Joseph Delaney's novel The Spook's Apprentice. It is a story of Thomas Ward, the seventh son of a seventh son, and his adventurous journey as a spook. Ward learns to fight evil spirits from Master Gregory who had captivated Mother Malkin, a powerful witch. One day Malkin escapes from Gregory's prison and starts preparing for a disastrous war between the spirits and the humans. Gregory decides to train Ward to fight against evil forces that Malkin was preparing for.
The epic drama movie stars Ben Barnes as Thomas Ward, Jeff Bridges enacts the character of Master Gregory, Alicia Vikander as none other than Alice, Olivia Williams as the very imitable Mam Ward, Julianne Moore as Mother Malkin, and Antje Traue as Bony Lizzie. The movie has been co-produced by Basil Iwanyk, Thomas Tull, and Lionel Wigram. Based on a total of 45 reviews of the critics, the movie holds a rating of 7% and an average rating of 4.1 out of 10. Seems like the movie has received mixed reviews despite of having an excellent star cast.
Seventh Son will share the big screen on February 6 with two other major releases, The Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending and Paul Tibbit's SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water. Which one have you decided to see?
