Game publisher Warners Bros. has revealed four limited-edition special bundles of Mortal Kombat X, all of which are now available to pre-order. The tenth installment in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series from NetherRealm Studios, is scheduled for release on April 14 next year. It will be available for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows platforms.
Of the limited edition copies, there is a 'Mortal Kombat X: Kollector's Edition' priced at $150 which can be purchased at regular retail outlets. It comes with a Coarse-designed Scorpion figurine and accompanying Certificate of Authenticity signed by artists Sven Waschk and Mark Landwehr. An in-game skin for the ninja based on the figure will also be included. Finally, you'll get the Kombat Pack, which includes four additional unnamed fighters who will apparently be a mix of older Kombatants and guest characters. This edition is available only for the PlayStation4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
There is also a pricier 'Mortal Kombat X Kollector's Edition' costing $180 which is available only at Amazon. It includes a 28cm hand-painted Scorpion statue, a steel pack and card, the in-game gold Scorpion Skin, the Kombat Pack and Mortal Kombat X: Blood Ties Comic Book Volume 1. This edition is also available only for the PlayStation4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
The 'Mortal Kombat X Premium Edition,' priced at just $90, is available via download only. It is the only edition that is available for all platforms. Finally, there is the 'Mortal Combat X Limited Edition' costing $95 which can only be pre-ordered at Gamestop. It comes with an exclusive Scorpion Skin inspired by the Cold War, and the Kombat Pack. This edition is also available only for the PlayStation4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
As in the previous iterations of the game, the Mortal Kombat X game-play will feature contests involving two players fighting against each other using a variety of attacks, special moves, and 'Fatalities.' Also, an 'energy meter' will allow players to perform X-Ray moves and other special techniques. With this latest version in the series, fighters can now also interact with the environment, like bouncing off areas to reposition themselves or using parts of the setting as weapons. Each fighter now is also given three different variations, each featuring a different set of moves they can use during the match. The game takes place in a span of 25 years starting from where Mortal Kombat 9 was last left. The Mortal Combat X characters, according to NetherRealm Studios' head Ed Boon, aside from regulars Scorpion and Sub-Zero, include the insect-like D'Vorah, the masked giant Ferra/Torr, the Aztec-inspired blood god Kotal Kahn and Cassie Cage, the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, plus new characters like Kano, Quan Chi, Raiden, and a bonus Goro for those who will be pre-purchasing the game.
