Rick Famuyiwa's drama comedy Dope which revolves around high school geeks who love drugs, which collected positive reviews after its Jan 24 entry at Sundance. The film has been given a Summer 2015 release date. This news was confirmed by Open Road Films on Friday, who are the official distributors.
The film, which stars Kiersey Clemons, Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori is set for a release on June 12, 2015, and will debut in the United States. It is currently scheduled to open against Universal's tent pole Jurassic World.
Open Road had obtained the film in a $7 million deal, sources told The Hollywood Reporter, which incorporated a pledge of at least $20 million for advertising.
The title was directed and written by Famuyiwaknown for 2010's movie Our Family Wedding. It has Forest Whitaker as the producer and Sean Combs as the executive producer.
The coming of age drama is a hit amongst people of all age groups, and it is especially a super hit amongst the teenagers.
Dope revolves around three kids who go to high school in L.A., who are too much in to 1990s hip hop culture punk rock and hence, they find themselves getting alienated in their rough and tough neighborhood. When they are invited to a party, they take the drug Ecstasy with them and soon find themselves on the brink of getting destroyed.
