Set in the near future on a distant frontier torn apart by war, Titanfall drops players in the middle of a conflict between the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) and the Militia. In Titanfall, players control "pilots" and their mech-style Titans, and fight in six-on-six matches set in war-torn outer space colonies. The game is optimized for fast-paced, continual action, aided by wall-running abilities and populations of computer-controlled soldiers. Players fight as free-running foot soldier "pilots" who can command agile, Titans to complete team-based objectives. There are three unique Titan classes, variants of light, medium, and heavy with inversely related speed and armor, namely the all-around Atlas, the ponderous Ogre, and the lithe Stryder. There are 15 multiplayer maps and five multiplayer modes in the base game. Titanfall's sole game mode is online multi-player but it contains single-player elements such as plot, character dialogue, and non-player characters.
Titanfall has won over 60 awards at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) during its pre-release launch, including a record-setting six E3 Critics Awards for Best in Show, Best Original Game, Best Console Game, Best PC Game, Best Action Game, and Best Online Multiplayer. The game was also generally positively received by gaming reviewers and critics in such sites as IGN, Game Informer, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Polygon, and Forbes.
