Looks like the upcoming heroine TV series Supergirl is ready to take-off!
Casting of major characters has now been shaped up and we would be expecting the return of Kara Zor-El on TV pretty soon. The first Supergirl appearance on TV was onSmallville and Kara Zol-El was played by Laura Vandervoort. In the big screen, a solo Supergirl movie was shown in 1984 that starred Helen Slater as Superman's cousin.
Today, Melissa Benoist had been confirmed for the role of Kara Zol-El a.k.a Supergirl while Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Kara's love interest. Jimmy is a photographer for CatCo who lives and works in National City.
Supergirl tells the story of Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, who also lands on Earth after escaping Krypton. She has been hiding the powers she shares with Superman, but later decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
Kara is taken in by the Danvers family when she was 12 after being sent away from Krypton. The Danvers teach her to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, setting her on her journey of heroism.
Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow) and Ali Adler (Glee, The New Normal) will be executive producers for the superheroine project in addition to penning the script for the pilot. The hour-long drama received a series commitment from CBS last September.
