Black Widow solo movie is still uncertain as of today.
Back in October, Marvel had announced their Phase 3 movie plans and surprisingly Black Widow movie is not part of the line-up. The supposed solo movie by Natasha Romanoff a.k.a Black Widow has long been a rumor since Scarlett Johansson's first appearance in Iron Man 2.
The members of the first Avengers movie have all been given solo projects, except for Black Widow and Hawkeye. This seems to be the case for Nick Fury as well. Since introduced in the first Iron Man, many speculated on a Nick Fury movie as well, but has not yet been conceptualized since.
Maybe the reason for Marvel Studios' reluctance to forward a spin-off movie lies within the concept's unstable track-record. After all, previous attempts made by other studios to produce spin-off movies from existing ensemble franchises weren't all that successful. Reception to X-Men spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine was lukewarm at best and halted the production of the X-Men Origins film series, which among others would have included a movie based on the character of Magneto. Daredevil spin-off Elektra received generally negative reviews and barely broke even at the box office. The Fantastic Four spin-off Silver Surfer and the Spider-Man 3 spin-off Venom never even materialized.
Meanwhile, Johansson's character is set to appear in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie. This news comes to us directly from Anthony Russo, who recently confirmed Natasha Romanoff's return in Captain America 3 while participating in a press event in Beijing. The Chinese website Sina.com has video of the interview, with the co-director revealing the bit about Scarlett Johansson while discussing exactly what is in store for the next Captain America sequel.
He told reporters, "We've been preparing for the movie since the one debuted last year, so we've been working on it for a long time now. We're very happy how it's coming along. Captain America 3 is gonna be called Captain America: Civil War, and it's going to star Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier will be back, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film."
