Bravo TV has officially renewed The Real Housewives of Orange County for a tenth season. According to the studio, "these ladies show no signs of slowing down and although they may be enjoying the sunny SoCal lifestyle, replete with plastic surgery and frequent shopping sprees, real life still manages to find them, even in the land of excess and indulgence." Filming for next season's show has already been ongoing since early January.
The Real Housewives of Orange County will return with all of its current cast intact, plus two more additions. Tamra Judge, Vicki Gunvalson and Heather Dubrow along with last season's newcomers Shannon Beador and Lizzie Rovsek will be back. And they will be joined by Meghan King Edmonds and Katie Chadwick Hamilton, both real-life housewives living in the plush West Coast community who are also both married to pro athletes. Edmonds is the wife of former MLB player and current Fox Sports announcer Jim Edmonds while Hamilton is the wife of MLB player Josh Hamilton.
Original The Real Housewives of Orange County Jeana Keough, who was a regular member of the cast in the first five seasons of the series back in 2006 to 2011, will also make her return as a 'friend' in season 10. She revealed as much via Twitter, writing: "Thinking about doing a little work on the OC housewives this season. What do you think?"
Gunvalson who has been with the show since it premiered on March 21, 2006, for season one told US Weekly that having new cast members is a necessity for the sake of the series' continued success. She said: "I definitely think we have some room for some new cast members. I think every season when we have brought somebody new in, it definitely has shifted it up a little bit. Because people, although they want to follow your story, they also want to see new stories, and how we react to those new stories. So I think we've got room for some more."
Asked what it takes to be a Real Housewife, the most senior member of the cast answered: "Somebody that definitely is strong-minded, not weak in any level. This a tough, tough business. People want to shoot you when you're down, and they want to shoot you when you're up. So it is not for the weak-hearted, weak-minded, you definitely have to have some tenacity, some spunk, you have to have a purpose, why people would want to watch you. So for those of you who want to be on this show, be careful for what you wish for."
