Entertainment One and Focus World's Maps to the Stars is scheduled for release to US theaters on February 27. Directed by David Cronenberg from a screenplay by Bruce Wagner, the ensemble cast drama debuted at last year's Cannes Film Festival where Julianne Moore won the Best Actress Award for her role in the film as Havana Segrand, a still famous but quickly-fading actress who continues to live in the shadow of her legendary movie-star mother and who is constantly haunted by the feeling of having been abused by her.
Moore's Havana will cross path with the rich, celebrity Weiss family. John Cusack's Stafford Weiss is a famed TV self-help therapist whose 'Hour of Personal Power' show has brought him an A-list celebrity clientele while his wife Cristina (played by Olivia Williams) is the manager of their child-star 13-year-old ex-addict son, Benjie (played by Evan Bird). Another member of the Weiss family, the badly-scarred and tormented Agatha (portrayed by Mia Wasikowska), also arrives in town, just released from a psych ward and ready to start a new life. Both Benjie and Agatha are children of incest since Stafford and Cristina are brothers and sisters who got separated while they were very young.
Agatha works her way into a friendship with Havana's limo driver (played Robert Pattinson) which blossoms into a romantic relations. Eventually, she too becomes the aging star's personal assistant on a recommendation from Carrie Fisher who cameos as herself. Havana is also a psychiatric patient of Stafford who is treating her for the years of abuse she suffered in the hands of her deceased mother Clarice Taggart (portrayed by Sarah Gadon), an iconic Hollywood movie star who died in a fire and who appears to her as a ghost. Moore herself describes her character as "someone who lives completely isolated in this make-believe world. She doesn't really have a family and she's still very angry with her mother because she feels she was abused. She's always lived in her mother's shadow, and in her mind, it's all a kind of mixed-up, Freudian mess."
