Sometimes things are not what it seems and that's what former That's So Raven star confessed in an upcoming OWN documentary entitled "Light Girls" which is the sequel to "Dark Girls."
"Light Girls" will be highlighting light skinned African-American women and will document their struggles which would include struggles about their skin color.
The actress admits that she had gone to extremes just to look darker and more beautiful for the Disney show, That's So Raven. "When I had my own show, I used to tan three or four times a week in a tanning bed to get darker. I did," the actress shares in a clip according to source, Us Weekly.
The 29-year-old actress further adds that she stopped tanning after one of the show's lighting guys approached her one day because her constant tanning was affecting the show's production. ABC News quotes the actress, "It's funny, one of the lighting guys came up -- I love him to death. I love him. Oh my goodness -- he goes, 'Raven, I need you to stop tanning. You're getting too dark, and we have to re-light the whole entire show. I was like, 'Sorry. I was just trying to be pretty.'"
That's So Raven ended on 2007.
During an interview on Oprah Winfrey's Where Are They Now? The 80's child actress says that she hates labels in particular to her sexuality and her race. "I'm an American. I'm not an African American; I'm an American," Raven tells Oprah though the hostess told her that she might receive flak for that comment - in which she did. But Symone defended herself with the comment to E!, "I never said I wasn't black. I want to make that very clear. I said, 'I am not African American.' I never expected my personal beliefs and comments to spark such emotion in people. I think it is only positive when we can openly discuss race and being labeled in America."
"Light Girls" will premiere on Monday, January 19.
